There are two here. The lunch special: 2 sliders, fries and a soda for $8 from 11:30 am to 5 pm everyday. The happy hour: $3 beers (half off) from 3-7 pm everyday.
What I Drank & Ate:
The bartender: Ebullient. I’ve been to Mark many times and the bartenders are always amiable.
The music: Great mix of new alternative, classic R&B/Soul with some modern rap thrown in.
The crowd/atmosphere: Rarely crowded during the day. Usually a mix of NYU students, tourists and locals. Very relaxed atmosphere. Bar seating and low tables in the front and back of the bar. They also have a small enclosed patio on the sidewalk.
Overall: I really dig this place. The sliders are tasty (with cheese & fried onions) and the fries are my ideal, crispy, fresh from the fryer with true potato flavor. They have bottles of house-made chipotle ketchup and jalapeño sauce as accompaniments. I usually put the chipotle ketchup on my sliders and mix the jalapeno sauce with mayo for my fries. To be honest, I am dangerously obsessed with the fries dipped in jalapeño mayo – a perfect combo. There are only four taps and one is Guinness so the selection is slim compared to most craft bars. But Mark is not just about the beer – it’s about the juicy slider, crispy fries & beer to go with. And the Sixpoint Righteous hit the spot especially at only $3. Be aware – my beer was served in a chilled glass so frosty mug haters need to ask for a room temp vessel. Obviously, the ideal time to hit Mark is between 3 & 5 so you can take advantage of both the lunch & happy hour specials. If you’re there outside of happy hour, you can score a can of Sly Fox 113 IPA for $4 at any hour – not too shabby. Lastly, Mark makes a kicking shake. Specifically, a freaking delicious candied bacon shake. Heaven in a glass for this cured pork lover. I’ve heard the espresso & Guinness shakes are good as well but I always give in to the siren call of the bacon. Next time you’re in the mood for sliders, fries & craft beer, give Mark a chance for a sweet satisfactory deal.
