Tuesday the 6th:

Start your evening at Rye House near Union Square with the Happy Hour with Hell Hound at 5 pm.  I like this combo – the music & libations of Robert Johnson combined with Dogfish Head‘s Hell Hound on My Ale.

Next, head down to Jimmy’s No 43 for the always worthwhile $10 Tuesday Night Tasting at 7:30. Tonight includes 5 beers from small Belgian breweries:

  • Vapeur Saison de Pipaix bottles
  • t’ Smisje Blonde bottles
  • De Dolle Arabier bottles
  • t’ Smisje Guido bottles

Alternatively, head out to Park Slope, Brooklyn for the free Tuesday Night Tasting at Bierkraft at 7 pm. Tonight’s tasting features beers from Full Sail Brewing Company:

The Pony Bar in Hell’s Kitchen is featuring Lagunitas beers tonight beginning at 6 pm. No list but this will be a solid event.

Ommegang’s on display at Stag’s Head in Midtown East tonight from 6 pm on. Expect Belgian Independence, Aphrodite, Adoration, 3 Philosophers, Witte, Hennepin & Rare Vos on draft.

Playworks, a national nonprofit organization, has a cool event tonight – Play Night at the Brooklyn Brewery in Williamsburg.  Two ticket options:

$25 gets you in the door at 7:30pm, two Brooklyn Brewery drink tokens (choice of 8 beers on tap) free appetizers, and unlimited tickets to participate in Playworks recess games.

$35 gets you a private tour of Brooklyn Brewery with a guided tasting of 4 different Brooklyn beers, from 6pm to 7:30pm. A Brooklyn Brewery guide will take you on a tour of the facilities, getting into nooks and crannies not open to the public. Afterwards, you will receive 2 drink tokens, appetizers, and unlimited tickets to participate in Playworks recess games.

The Brooklyn Brewery has teamed up with the new Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg for a super beer dinner, “Brooklyn Brewery:  The Director’s Cut”.  Brewmaster Garrett Oliver has paired some of his favorite Brooklyn brews to food from chef Saul Bolton & film clips selected by John Woods.  The menu:

Good Beer in the East Village is putting up eight lines of Dogfish Head tonight beginning at 6:30 pm.  The list:

The Knights of Bruklyn Homebrewer’s Sentry year-end Homebrewing Competition is tonight at 7 pm at Union Hall in Park Slope. This is a fun event and a great chance to taste some of the best homebrews around.  All of the samples are free while they last and Union Hall has some nice draft beers and nibbles for purchase as well. Free cheese & jerky will be served while they last as well. Sixpoint Brewery is hosting the official afterparty in the basement beginning at 8:30 pm. Tickets are $7 – local band Outside the Box will be playing a super-long set & special Sixpoint beers will be on tap. Everyone who enters between 8:30 & 9:30 gets a free Sixpoint beer of their choice.

The Double Windsor in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn is hosting a Very Vinyl Christmas beginning at 8 tonight.  Bring your holiday vinyl to spin – 5 song sets total, munch on free “Christmasy” cookies and drink some holiday beer:

  • Evil Twin Soft Christmas (Imperial Vanilla Stout + sour cherries + Mrs. Claus’s tears)

David Copperfield’s on the Upper East Side is also featuring holiday beers in their Crazy Christmas and Holiday Beer Night beginning at 7 pm. No list, but 20 taps & bottles are promised and ladies apparently have a choice of beers for only $3.50. Huh.

Idle Hands in the East Village is featuring Sly Fox Brewery and Jefferson’s Rye in their weekly $10 tasting from 7 to 9 pm. You’ll get full pours of the Sly Fox Sly Fox Christmas and 113 IPA, tastes of the Sly Fox Dunkel Lager, Pikeland Pils & Saison, a taste of Jefferson’s Rye and an order of of Tater Tots from That Burger w specially made dipping sauce made with featured brewer.

Thursday the 8th:

Sixpoint Brewery is taking over the taps at Bierkraft in Park Slope tonight beginning at 7 pm. The list:

Saturday the 10th:

The Get Real NY Beer Bar Fest is today! Admittedly, I’m a co-organizer & investor, but this is going to be a fabulous event!  We’ve brought together eight of the city’s best craft beer bars to serve some of their most delicious bites.  We’ve paired those with some of the best craft beer available (hello, Hill Farmstead, Stillwater & Wandering Star, to name a few).  We’ll also have an oyster & cask fest on the second floor and mini-seminars on how to pair beer with food.  404 10th Ave at 33rd Street is the location and we’re offering two sessions, both with a VIP & General Admission option.  VIP tickets are $45 get in an hour early and get to taste some special beers from 12% Imports while general admission tickets are $35.  The VIP afternoon session runs from noon-4, with general admission from 1-4, and the evening VIP session runs from 6-10, with general admission from 7-10.  Tickets are selling fast – get yours here.

Barcade in Williamsburg has a Barcade Beer Project/Highway to Help beginning at noon today.  Sixpoint Brewery is bringing back some of their favorite retired beers for a special series to be served exclusively at the three Barcades (Brooklyn, Jersey City & Philly).  The East Coast Amber & S.M.P. return today.  They also have a special $100 ticket that gets you five-ounce pours of all 10 beers at each event, food in Philadelphia and a bus ride from Brooklyn to Jersey City to Philadelphia, and returning to Brooklyn.  All proceeds from the tickets go to local food banks.

The Beer Advocate brothers are back in town today and leading a BeerAdvocate Does NYC. BA mag turns 5! Bar Crawl through Brooklyn & Queens.  The itinerary:

The Manchester Pub on the Upper East Side has a 5-Course Beer & Whiskey Pairing Dinner featuring Captain Lawrence and Hudson Whiskey today, with seatings at 6 & 8:30 pm.  Note:  The 8:30 is sold-out and there are only 9 tickets available for the 6 pm seating at time of writing.  If there are any left, tickets are $60 and the menu looks killer:

I’m hosting the second Crafty Sunday Brunch at Jimmy’s No 43 today from noon to 3. We’ll be creating holiday cards, tags & decorations using a simple screenprinting process, eraser carving & paper folding.  This week’s crafty activities are free & you’ll definitely go home with something cool that you’ve created! Feel free to bring blank paper, cards & tags if you’d like but materials will be provided. I can also give free knitting lessons upon request. That delightful summer food festival, Smorgasbord, becomes Smorgasbrewery this Sunday when it moves indoors to the Brooklyn Brewery in Williamsburg.  From noon to 5 pm every Sunday through March, feast on edible wares from a selection of five rotating vendors while enjoying draft Brooklyn beers.  Free tours will be given every hour as well.  This Sunday will feature Brooklyn Oyster Party, Kumquat Cupcakery, Mile End, Shorty Tang & Sons, and one more TBA.
